Although we were there for only two days, I took about 150 photos, so you see, I've actually cut it down quite a bit!
On Saturday we got the 10 minute train ride from Manarola to the next town of Monterosso; we had walked this part last year. Then we set off on the track to Levanto. It was still quite a hard path, but with less woodland, and a lot more people, it being the weekend.

Now that the strike was over, we could get one step up the line by train, to Monterosso |

A block of the native marble in a wall at the start of the path |

Another wall - this time of beautiful green serpentine |

On the trail of the lonesome pine ...
Looking back over the whole coast of the Cinque Terre |
|
The whole area is a maze of trails, |
|
Some of the trail was quite rough ... |
|
... but in places steps made things better ... |
|
... and some stretches were positively relaxing ... |
|
Finally - Levanto - not quite so pretty, perhaps because it is built on the flat
and has not evolved the attractive terracing of the others towns |
this is the way to "do" the cinque terre, away from the maddening crowd...
