Ancient and Modena ...

On Friday, we got a couple of the free bikes provided at certain points round the city and had a tour around in the sunshine. As well as the usual historic sights, our tour circuit took us past the Ferrari museum.  The museum is on the site of the original workshop of the company founded by Enzo Ferrari in Modena in 1938.  Its futuristic museum is a site of pilgrimage for lovers of fast cars.

Getting the bikes organised ...
All roads lead to the ducal palace ...
... with its random fountain
An early Ferrari beset by reflections
More reflections - Ancient, medium and modern - I don't know what the castellated tower is, the building at left is the original Ferrari workshop, and the futuristic structure is the new mirror-clad museum.
An old cafe in the city centre (everyone had just left!)
The duomo at night
Our hotel was very grand - a 16th century building with plush fittings and decoration (and very nice staff!)
Some of the frescos on walls and ceiling

  1. you guys never cease to surprise me. You seem to keep finding ways of discovering the wonders of Italian art, landscapes, foodscapes, anthropological stuff, etc., around you. Things that most Italians (and many foreigners) ignore; they walk past these things and simply do not notice them. You do, and you even take the trouble of sharing them with us on the blog. Chapeau! I think you would easily qualify to compile a guidebook (with text and pictures) with a title like "how to spend a winter in Barga" or "exploring Tuscany and Emilia Romagna in the winter" or "slow tourism for italophiles". If you think the project is too big, you might consider a calendar, one of those with a picture every month...
