Cardoso to Vallico Sopra

Yesterday we did the hike from the village of Cardoso, across the valley from us, round below the cliffs of Monte Gragno to the village of Vallico Sopra.  We like this walk - especially on a Sunday, because there is a community-run restaurant in Vallico which does lunches only at the weekend!

Selfie sticks are not banned in this area!
The impressive rock face of Monte Gragno
Looking back to Serchio valley
Although I presume it is still limestone, this outcrop on the path has intriguing red and green banding - iron compounds perhaps?
Another view out of this side valley to the main Serchio valley
Antipasto (that's one portion, mind) - a fine reward for all the effort
Catkins outside Vallico Sopra
More impressive crags
Christmas roses were common along the path - hard to photograph because they like to hang their heads (can be hard on the photographer's knees)

  1. I imagine it gives you a special satisfaction, when you look at Monte Gragno from La Serra, to be able to say "We were there! just under that rock with that strange angle..."
